Port Vila is the capital of Vanuatu. They won independance from France and England in 1980 and changed name from New Hebrides to Vanuatu. There used to be 1,000,000 native Melanesians here but now the numbers are greatly reduced to 200,000. Nowadays Vanuatu relies heavily on tourism to keep their culture alive.
The joint agreement between France and England made Vanuatu a peaceful place considering the immense rivalry that has existed between those European nations in the past.

Port Vila has only 30,000 people and their friendliness makes up for the small numbers. We chose this as a destination for our internet marketing holiday to practice our social media skills and meet likeminded people. It certainly is a great place for that.
