How To Get a FLAC to MP3 Converter

Converting FLAC to MP3

The acronym "FLAC" means "Free Lossless Audio Codec". As the name would suggest, this codec is an audio file encoding that is as good (quality-wise) as an audio CD. Unlike other formats (e.g.) MP3, the Flac codec doesn't sacrifice sound quality and can still nearly halve the file size. In the past this codec was typically used for backing up CDs.

Due to faster networks and bigger hard drives .flac is nowadays also commonly used for everyday listening and online audio streaming.

Sometimes you will need to convert .flac to another format. Sure, the FLAC codec is great, but there are times when you just can't reasonably use it. Case in point - on mobile MP3 players file size still matters, and you can put nearly twice as many MP3 files as FLAC files on a portable music player.

On top of that, while FLAC support is widespread among modern audio players, sometimes you will have to get a FLAC to MP3 converter. The extra-popular .mp3 format supported almost universally.

When you need to convert FLAC files to .mp3 you will need to download and install one of the available Flac to MP3 converters. Here's what to consider when searching for a .flac to .mp3 converter :

* Is it simple to ues? At the minimum, there should be a graphical user interface, and Windows shell integration. Well explained converter options are also handy, since converting audio files can be a deep mystery if if you're forced to configure everything manually.

* How fast is it? This usually will depend on the codec in question and software configuration, but conversion speed can be a major factor if you need to convert a big .flac collection to another file format.

* Freeware or Commercial. In most cases you don't have to actually buy the application. There are good free FLAC file converters anyone can download.

Finally, I recommend using SUPER to transform .flac data. dbPowerAmp is more simple to use while other tools support a mind-boggling list of music codecs. You just need to find the right one.
