5 Tips To Prevent Future Back Problems

If you have never experienced back pain or discomfort, chances are you may…

At some point in our lives many of us may find ourselves grabbing our lower back with some discomfort or even pain. The likelihood of this happening will actually increase as we get older. Whether it lasts a few hours or a few days, there are simple preventative techniques that allow for us to avoid bigger problems in the future.

Sit straight and arch your lower back

For those of you who work in a desk setting all day, remember to sit upright and keep your lower back arched. Try not to allow your neck and shoulders to lean forward while seated. Not sitting upright and arching your lower back may lead to unnecessary stress on your neck muscles.

Get off the computer every so often to stretch

Try not to remain seated for extended periods of time. Allow your muscles and joints to rest by getting up and moving around.

When you do get off the computer, make sure it isn’t to smoke

When you do find yourself taking a break from the computer, make sure it is not to go smoke. According to the North American Spine Association, nicotine limits the blood flow to the intervertebral discs. Without a healthy disc, you may find yourself with future back problems.

Exercise on your time off

Incorporate any form of exercise that upholds hip flexibility, spine stability, core strengthening and extension of the lower lumbar regions of the spine. Pilates and Yoga are great examples.

Sleep with the right posture

Try sleeping on your side with a pillow between your knees. This will allow for your body to put less pressure on your back muscles.

By implementing the above mentioned tips, you may find yourself avoiding a trip to the doctor’s office. To learn more about non-surgical spinal decompression therapy for the treatment of chronic back pain, please visit us here.
